Purchased this player for $100.00 on black Friday and thought I was getting a great deal. What I didn't check was the warranty most offer a 1 year, Toshiba only offers a 90 day limited warranty. Guess what, on day 92 the BDX2000 stopped playing dvd's and the BD playback sometimes freezes half-way through a movie. I'm probable going to end up paying for repairs or replacement of this unit. I will never buy a Toshiba or any other player that does not offer a full year warranty again. Buyer beware

The review on the BDX2000. I can't even give a justice review on this item because I have as of yet been able to even play a movie. I've read people saying they didn't like it because a universal remote didn't work on it. Some I've read said the loading time makes too much sound, and gave it 1 or 2 stars. Listen, if the worse of my problems was that a stupid remote did not work on it, I would be lucky. I'm not one into envy, but listen I envy these people. I'm giving this thing 3 stars, and I cannot play a single movie without it freezing 3 times within an 8 mins. period. Clearly there is something off with the unit, so I'm taking it to have it looked at. I'm totally open for suggestions on what others might think the problem is. I find it hard to believe that in todays world you have to have the same brand on every device. That seems a little prehistoric to me. As far as the picture goes for the 8 mins. I tried to watch I think it looked great. I even tried just a regular DVD, and it looked pretty cool as well. My onle problem is that I cannot get through a movie without it freezing a hundred times.

So here I am 16 days later to say that I had this device all wrong. At first I thought that Toshiba had just put out a crappy device, with some of their better models coming out this year. I was mistaken about this unit, however, this adventure that I went through to finally get a Blu-Ray player to work has taught me something. I am not going to "jump ship" to a new format ever again until Blu-Ray movies are no longer made. That's whay happened to me with VHS. I would go to a store looking for a movie, and was told they would not be making a movie in that format. I had to finally give up and switch to DVD's. There wasn't any real reason why I went to Blu-Ray while DVD's are still popular, it was just I wanted to do. Next time, I'll wait until I'm told movies will not be made in the Blu-Ray format before I switch again.

Customer rating:
I bought this as a second blu ray player for my bedroom ht. I got it on Black Friday at a local electronics store for 79.00. I'm not a huge fan of Toshiba because their customer support is completely bogus but I rolled the dice due to the price. My other br player is an LG, also an entry level, no frills player. As has been mentioned in other reviews, stopping during play then pressing play results in starting from the left off point. The BDX2000 does that but not consistently. I couldn't figure out why it would resume on one disc but not another. Press play and still your breath. It also would not play a couple of used br discs I bought from the local Blockbuster. My LG played them without skipping. Upscaling on the Toshiba is just ok. Tray OPENING time from power on is aggravating. A regular DVD slides the tray open immediately, I can understand load time but a delay of the tray opening??? The BDX2000 also has a cover that opens when the tray slides out but has to be closed manually. That was dumb beyond description. By now I felt i'd overpaid. If you can find this for 50.00 and need a second player, go ahead. If not, bypass it and spend the extra money on a player that won't annoy you with quirks.

Mr.Toshiba's CEO: I don't know your name but I know what your company did. I'm a HD DVD owner and I can't watch movies in HD anymore. There's no HD DVD new movies since almost two years. Do you send me a Blu Ray Toshiba now? there's a lot of them to rent, buy, trade. etc.
I bought your HD DVD device here, at Amazon.com you can check it out. Give us a little respect, give us something to redeem your company.
Regards,
