The PS3 logo What’s Under the Hood
As with previous models, the PlayStation 3 250GB system features an IBM “Cell” processor and a co-developed NVIDIA graphics processor that together allow the system to perform two trillion calculations per second. Yet the 250GB system manages to improve on this with its 45nm version of the processor, which although running at the same 60+nm speed as previous PS3 versions, uses less energy. This makes the unit’s smaller size and quieter fan possible. Along with the traditional AV and composite connections, the 250GB system also boasts an HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) port, which delivers uncompressed, unconverted digital picture and sound to compatible high-definition TVs and projectors. (The system is capable of 128-bit pixel precision and 1080p resolution for a full HD experience) This console also provides for an extreme sound experience by supporting Dolby Digital 5.1, DTS 5.1, as well as Linear PCM 7.1. Finally, it features cross connectivity with your PC network and PlayStation Portable (PSP) and its pre-installed, 250GB hard disc drive allows you to save games as well as download content from The Internet. Unlike The some other models of The PlayStation 3, The 250GB system does not offer backwards compatibility.

PlayStation 3 utilizes The Blu-ray disc media format, which gives you The best high-definition viewing experience on your television, by way of The format’s ability to hold six times as much data as traditional DVDs. This tremendous capacity, combined with The awesome power of The system’s processor and graphics card, promises an endless stream of mind-blowing games, and other multimedia content. This doesn’t mean though that The PS3 is limited to Blu-ray discs. It also supports CD-ROM, CD-RW, DVD, DVD-ROM, DVD-R, DVD+R formats. In addition, PlayStation 3 system software includes BD Live support that allows you to play discs that support Blu-ray Disc Profile 2.0 (BD-LIVE), meaning you can also connect to The Internet while playing discs that support this format to obtain additional features. And of course PS3 owners also receive free access to The PlayStation Network (PSN), where through The PlayStation Store and PlayStation Home, they can download games, game demos, movies, and other content, as well as chat with friends, play mini-games, compete in tournaments and explore dedicated game spaces.

Sensational Controller
The Dualshock 3 wireless controller included with The PlayStation 3 250GB system provides The most intuitive game play experience, with pressure sensors in each action button and The inclusion of The highly sensitive Sixaxis motion sensing technology. Each hit, crash and explosion is more realistic when The user feels The rumble right in The palm of their hand. It can even detect natural movements for real-time and high precision interactive play, acting as a natural extension of The user’s body. Dualshock 3 utilizes Bluetooth technology for wireless game play and The controller’s detachable USB cable to seamlessly and automatically charge The controller when connected to The PlayStation 3. By integrating all of these features into The popular PlayStation controller design, The Dualshock 3 further enhances The advanced gameplay experience only available on The PlayStation 3 system.

The PS3 is over rated…There is all this talk of Xbox 360 RRoD, but what about PS3? My PS3, all of a sudden stopped reading any media. It’s a little over two years old and I really took care of it. Now, I have to pay $150 to get it repaired…Microsoft did not charge anything to fix my 360. The more people that i talk to, the more I realize that the PS3 is not very reliable. I paid $400 for a device, to last two years…

Not only was I completely underwhelmed by the menus and the chunkiness of the GUI… I wasted the better part of two days trying to get it to connect to my wireless network and to the Sony remote purchased separately. I did a number of searches on tech support sites and was on the phone with Verizon with no solution at hand. While it is likely I got a defective unit, there are a number of people extremely frustrated with the difficulty in setting these up to a wireless network. If you cannot run an Ethernet to the back – proceed with caution. Note – my kids have a wii and I was able to set that up in under 10 minutes and it works flawlessly with our home network.

Considering you can get a 250GB hdd for $50 this really isnt a good deal, you’re much better off getting the 120GB and saving yourself some money. 120GB is actually a ton of space anyways and most people are hard pressed to even fill half of that.

PLAY STATION 3/250 GB ~ The recipient is a seasoned ‘gamer’ and I felt just awful when the excitement went down the drain….New and out of the box an “Error” message came up and the PS3 was unusable. He called Sony who told him he could send it in to them and they would fix it or send him a ‘reconditioned’ one! (WHAT THE HECK??) I had just paid for a new one, with an additional $350.00 of accessories and games and they will “send him a used/aka, “been broken box” in 6-12 weeks!” Well, the PS3 is packed up, in transit and when it finally gets ‘credited’ back to my account I will send him the $$$ to buy a new one. This is a product better bought LOCALLY than on line. If that had happened in the first place he could have taken it back immediately, exchanged the gift for another new PS3 and been enjoying it! (* I don’t know much about game systems but the Sony guy informed my son that his was NOT an isolated incident with this particular box). Hope this helps you!

My new Ps3 250g had arrived on Christmas Eve with great excitement. Turn on the power button for the first time and receive this error message “The hard disk’s file system is corrupted and will be restored” and then it asks me to format the hard drive. During the formatting process the system freezes at 99%. I’d tried formatting the harddrive 3-4 times but still recieved the same error messages.

On Christmas day, I’d called Sony Playstation 3 tech support, and we went through a series of troubleshooting (no luck). The sony technician was unable to fix my issue therefore they will be sending out a prepaid package to my house so I can mail my console back to be fix/repair. He also mention that this error message only occur for use system, and not brand new system. (Did amazon send me a used ps3 after I pay for a new one) What really upset me the most… is that I had purchased a brand new console and I got a defective system in return. Also, the tech stated that If Sony could not fix my Ps3 then they will send me a Certified Approve System (NOT A BRAND NEW ONE THAT I PURCHASED FOR STRAIGHTOUT OF THE FACTORY) but a used one, a pre-owned system. That doesn’t seem fair to me. I am not happy

“Side note” I will try to return this item back to amazon for a replacement beside Sony.
